Fitness Kickboxing to Benefit DanceBlue; For The Kids

Attention Bodyfit peeps: We are going to be helping support the special event DanceBlue, a 24-hour dancing marathon, by hosting a two week team fundraiser, November 3-16, 2014. The fitness kickboxing two week fundraiser will provide a fun way for individual DanceBlue teams and the community to raise money, all supporting The Kentucky Children’s Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic through the Golden Matrix Fund.
Starting in 2006, DanceBlue has nearly a decade of dancing under their belt. Raising $1.4 million in 2014, DanceBlue is hoping for its best year yet in 2015. The history of DanceBlue started with a young man’s devotion to helping others and has grown to the largest philanthropy event, not only at The University of Kentucky but in the South Eastern Conference. Two weeks of fitness kickboxing is only one of many events spread out over the year to benefit DanceBlue but Bodyfit Punch is hoping to make a big impact.  The kickboxing classes will be held during the evening hours at 5:30pm, 6:45pm and 7:45pm, Monday – Thursday, November 3-6 and November 10-13. Classes will also be held on Sunday afternoon, November 9 and 16. The cost is $10 and each participate will receive one DanceBlue kickboxing class, DanceBlue colored kickboxing hand wraps and one free week of regularly scheduled classes at Bodyfit Punch.  Current members, our regularly scheduled classes will not be effected.  You can participate in the fund raising as well by donating to DanceBlue when you come in for class.

Workout of the Week

I haven’t given you all one of these in a while – my apologies…  Here is a KB workout for you that shouldn’t take more than 20-25 minutes.  Note: You can substitute DB’s if you do not have a KB

  1. KB Squat Press – 25
  2. Jumping Jacks – 25
  3. KB Swing – 25
  4. Mountain Climbers – 25 R/L
  5. KB Lunge Exchange – 20 (10 R/L)
  6. Pushups – 15
  7. KB Skull Crusher – 20
  8. Burpees – 15

Complete 3-4 Rounds

As always, go through these exercises quickly, but make sure your form stays solid.  Push yourself, but rest when needed.



Open Gym…woohoo!!!


You ask and we deliver.  We now have open gym hours.  If time is an issue and you can’t make it to a class, then come on in when you can (between our open gym hours) and get your sweat on!  Here are the specifics:

Hours: Monday-Thursday 6am-1pm and 4pm-8pm; Friday 6am-1pm and Saturday 8:45am-12pm

Price: Drop-in Member (you already have monthly unlimited classes) $5; Drop-in Non-Member $10

          Open Gym Monthly Unlimited Member $15; Open Gym Monthly Unlimited Non-Member $30

This is cool and we’re excited to be able to offer this to you but we’ve got to make sure and cover some things.  Of course, if there is a class going on or a class about to start in the room that you want to use, sorry, the classes come first.  It might be a good idea to take a look at our class schedule first and we will post it around the gym as well.  Also, please follow the “rules” that are posted about Open-Gym, “be respectful of others and the equipment”, etc.  And please clean up after your workout…the equipment, your sweat, etc.

Shaking My Head

I can tolerate cell phones in the gym for this reason only.  Every once in a while, you’ll stumble upon gems such as these.  To be fair, the name isn’t completely accurate, as not all of these clips are from Crossfit.  But, they are hilarious nonetheless, especially the pullup and box jump clips.
