Active Rest vs Passive Rest
Who knew there was more than one type of rest??? While many people are not aware that there are two different types of rest, everybody has gone through both types. Passive rest is what most people think of when they hear the word rest. Sitting on the couch. Laying by the pool. Sleeping. It’s pretty much what the majority of our population does on a daily basis. Active rest, on the other hand, is exactly what it sounds like. You are active, but at a much lower intensity than your normal workout. Maybe you take go for a hike or a short run. Maybe it’s a game of tennis or basketball. Anything that gets you up and moving on your normal off day could be considered active rest.
So which one is better for you? Well, that all depends on you. Each type of rest has its own benefits, but it’s up to you to figure out which one fits your lifestyle better. If you’re the type who has to go “balls to the wall” every time you’re active, then maybe you need to sit out a day. On the other hand, if you like a leisurely stroll through the park, a day of active rest might be just what you need. See what type presents the better option for you and your lifestyle and try it out.
